Check the exact model, battery configuration, and charger covered by certification. A familiar-looking mark is not enough. Ask for a traceable certificate and verify its scope through the testing organization’s records. Local requirements may also differ. Some markets request additional electrical, transport, or charger documentation. The details matter.
IP ratings describe resistance to dust and water. The first number concerns solid particles. The second concerns liquid exposure. For example, a higher water rating may tolerate rain, but it does not guarantee safe riding through deep puddles. Water pressure, temperature, and test duration affect real performance. Dry the charging port before connection. Never charge a wet scooter.
In practical inspections, I look for sealed connectors, protected cable entry points, and a firm battery enclosure. Small gaps can become serious after vibration and repeated folding. Certification is valuable, but it is not a lifetime promise. Seals age, crashes change structures, and standards evolve. Buyers should treat test documents as evidence, not permission to ignore maintenance.
